Fabricio Barili is a PhD candidate in Applied Computing at Unisinos University, Brazil. He also holds an MSc in Communication Sciences and a major in Digital Communication from Unisinos University. His research brings together communication and computing to examine digital labour and data infrastructures.

His earlier research focused on algorithmic management, worker surveillance, and tracking technologies. Since 2024, his doctoral research has expanded toward data markets, data infrastructures, and technological reappropriation. He is the author of the article “The Platformization of Worker Surveillance,” published in the International Journal of Communication in 2024. He also led the development of Jornada do empreendedor/trabalhador de si mesmo, a text-based game about platform labour and worker organizing featured in the 2020 Workers Game Jam, organized by Notes from Below and Game Workers Unite UK.

Barili was also a researcher on an IT for Change-funded project on data value chains in Brazil and Mexico. He is a member of the Surveillance Studies Network, and his research draws on his professional experience in enterprise technology engineering to examine how software infrastructures shape labour processes and workplace power.
