Roseli Figaro is a Full Professor at the University of São Paulo (USP) and a CNPq Research Productivity Fellow. She coordinates the Communication and Work Research Centre (CPCT) and leads the FAPESP Thematic Project Datafication of Communication Activity and Communicators’ Work Arrangements: Confronting the Power of Platform Companies (2023–2028). She is also a member of the Management Council of the National Institute of Science and Technology in Informational Sovereignty (INCT-DSI/CNPq) and Editorial Director of the journal Comunicação & Educação.

Her research focuses on communication and work, transformations in journalists’ and communicators’ labour, platformization and datafication, discourse analysis, and communication and education. At the University of Sao Paulo, she coordinated the partnership with the University of Oxford for the Fairwork Brazil project and served as Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Communication Sciences from 2017 to 2021. She was President of the National Association of Graduate Programs in Communication (COMPÓS) from 2021 to 2023 and Director of International Relations at the Brazilian Society for Interdisciplinary Communication Studies (Intercom) from 2017 to 2020.

Figaro has held visiting and research positions at CELSA – Sorbonne Université, the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO) in Mexico, CIESPAL in Ecuador, and Aix-Marseille University in France. She holds a PhD and an MA in Communication Sciences from the University of São Paulo and a degree in Journalism from Faculdade Cásper Líbero. She is the author and editor of numerous books, book chapters, and journal articles on communication, labour, journalism, discourse, and changing conditions of media work.
